3 Days in Scotland Part 1 – Destination Wedding on the Isle of Mull

Destination Beach Wedding Photographers - Photography by Justin and Emily Isle of Mull, Scotland – destination wedding

Today Emily and I are flying up to Scotland – Easyjet Bristol to Glasgow and then driving up to Oban to catch the ferry to the stunning Isle of Mull for Lyndsey & Finlay’s wedding tomorrow on Calgary beach on the north-west of the island. In the past I’ve been asked what kit we take to destination weddings so I though I’d post what we’re taking.

Because of the way we capture weddings and our use of depth of field, we pretty much take the same as we do to weddings anywhere else in the UK – our standard go-to 24-70mm f/2.8’s (mk1 and mk2) and then an assortment of Canon L class and USM primes.

Canon 50mm f/1.2L

Canon 35mm f/1.4L

Canon 135mm f/2L

Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM

• Canon 50mm f1.4 USM (we keep one each always on us as LOVE the 50mm focal length)

• Canon 15mm f/2.8mm fisheye (rarely used for weddings but it’s so small and light I’d regret not taking it if I needed it!)

We’re also taking the Canon 70-200mm f/4L and a x2 tele-convertor just in case… The f/4 version is really lightweight considering the extra reach it brings to any party. At the other end of the spectrum is a Canon 17-35 f/2.8L for any large group shots in confined spaces and epic landscape shots…. It’s Scotland afterall!

Bodies we’re taking are 2x Canon 5d Mk3’s, Canon 6d as 1st backup and our trusty travel Fuji x100s which can more than hold it’s own against much more expensive cameras as a 2nd backup. Not shown in the photo are flashguns and some filters for long exposures if needed for landscape shots and a remote timer incase I get some time to do some timelapses with the full frame cameras. We’re also taking one of the GoPros (as it would be rude not to) ….and my Phantom drone/quadcopter incase I get some time to get some footage for personal use.

I best get some kip as we have got to be at the airport in a few hours!
